Jeff Mayweather on Floyd’s trainer situation

With all the buzz over the past few days surrounding the training situation involving Floyd Mayweather Jr., we caught up with the one Mayweather brother who has no part in the situation.

Jeff Mayweather has long served as an advisor and contact for Floyd Mayweather, but he has never served as his trainer or any other official capacity.  We asked Jeff to clear up any misconceptions there may be involving the situation and he admitted he is not all that sure about everything that is going on.

“I don’t know nothing about it.  All I know is that it was tweeted.  I don’t know how real it is, how true it is.  I have no idea.”

However, he did say that although Floyd Mayweather may have tweeted that his father will be in his corner, that is not an indication that Roger Mayweather will not be involved at all.  He said that it is possible that both men could be working with him in this camp.

“That’s happened before.  Roger was the head trainer.  Floyd was more there to try to fine tune and correct the little things.  He knows his son better than anyone.”

This is just another twist in the saga that is Floyd Mayweather.  We do know that he will be fighting on May 4.  We just are not sure who will be staring at him from across the ring.  So far the leading contender seems to be Robert Guerrero.  There are other possibilities in the mix as well, however.  Fortunately, an official announcement appears to be imminent.

No matter if Floyd Mayweather Sr. or Roger Mayweather is the one doing his training, Floyd Jr. should be an overwhelming favorite no matter who he is fighting.  Both men know him well and are among the best trainers in the game.
