As dominant as the Mayweather family may be in boxing, they have yet to make a splash in the world of mixed martial arts. Tonight that will all change as Jeff Mayweather will be in the corner of Roy “Big Country” Nelson as he takes on Dave Herman at UFC 146.
Jeff is the first of the Mayweather brothers to embrace the potential of working with mma fighters as they try to improve the boxing aspect of their games. Jeff began by working with King Mo in Strikeforce. Shortly after he began working with Nelson as well as Danny Castillo and TJ Dillashaw. Castillo provided him with his first win inside the octagon several weeks back, but this will be by far Mayweather’s highest profile fight in mma.
An impressive performance by Nelson will assuredly send more fighters in the direction of Mayweather as more and more fighters realize the potential great stand up provides in the cage. King Mo was instrumental in putting Nelson with Mayweather as Lawal is a constant advocate of Mayweather’s, encouraging them to seek out his services. We’ll see what Nelson has picked up from Jeff very shortly! Best of luck to Jeff and Roy!
