It is being billed as the “Legend vs. the Champ,” but the way Jessie Vargas sees it, if he beats Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 5, it will go a long way towards making him a legend too. Should he leave with his hand raised that night, he will certainly be a lot closer to that goal.
However, not many people are giving Vargas a shot to beat Pacquiao. From the oddsmakers, to the media, to the fans, few are giving Vargas more than a modest chance to taste victory on that night. Of course those people are not the ones who will be stepping in the ring, so Vargas is not too concerned about their opinions. It is his faith in himself, as well as his abilities that will pull him through.
We spoke with Jessie Vargas less than a month before he climbs in the ring for the biggest night of his boxing career, to see where his mind is at as he prepares to meet the legendary Manny Pacquiao.
