Heading into the biggest fight of his career on May 4, middleweight J’Leon Love, at least on the outside, doesn’t seem to be letting the moment get to him.
At 15-0 (8 KO’s), Love couldn’t ask for a much better start to his career. From a promotional standpoint, as a key member of The Money Team, he is guaranteed to get as much, if not more, attention than just about any other fighter on his level. Being a part of the stable of Floyd Mayweather, the most visible fighter on the planet, is sure to get you noticed, and that’s especially the case when Love opens up the pay-per-view between his boss and Robert Guerrero.
As for the fight itself, Love will be taking another step up in class in the tough Gabe Rosado, who is coming off a loss in a championship bout against Gennady Golovkin. Despite that loss, Rosado has been enjoying somewhat of a career rebirth, rattling off seven consecutive wins prior to that defeat. In order to put a second loss in a row on him, Love knows that he must be at his absolute best. He also knows that a win on this stage will signal his arrival at contender status going forward.
While he is enjoying the rise in his boxing profile, Love has had to go through more than his share of tough times both in camp, and in life, to get there. In training, the Mayweather Boxing Club does its best to prepare fighters for the challenges of boxing. Love calls it “the doghouse,” and when he is in there, he knows he will be pushed to his limits, in order to make sure he gets the best out of his ability.
Outside the ring, Love has had it much worse. Recently, his brother was killed in Detroit. An incident like this would be more than enough to side track any fighter. However, Love has decided to push on, allowing the misfortune to push him to greater heights rather than bring him down.
When he squares off with Gabe Rosado next Saturday night, a lot of questions will be answered about J’Leon Love. Is he a fighter worthy of the push he is getting, or will he be exposed as a fighter living off the Mayweather name? The time for talking is almost over, and soon the questions will be answered.
