Back when we spoke with Kevin Newman II last week, he was just about to head off to Kansas City to compete in the Ringside World Championships. The title was particularly important to him, not only because of the long layoff he has undergone due to injury, but also because the same title was won by several other fighters in the Mayweather Boxing Club.
The fights themselves proved to by rather easy for Newman, who never was in any real danger in either of his fights. But that doesn’t mean the tournament was without it’s difficulties. In his second fight, he and his competitor engaged in some conversation during the contest that the referee did not take kindly to. Following a warning in the first round, he elected to disqualify both in the next when more words were exchanged.
The ruling was curious, especially considering the comments were not too out of line. After the decision was made, a grievance was filed, which was ultimately upheld, and the two had at it again for the title. The next time would be much less eventful, with Newman rolling to the title.

Here we talk to Kevin, and get his thoughts on winning the title, as well as his plans for the next few months before he turns pro. Newman believes he still has more to accomplish at the amateur ranks, and is setting his sights on those goals before focusing on a move to the pros.
