Kevin Newman II signs with TMT, makes debut on Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 card

By Jody Kohn

Although he may not be known to the casual boxing fan yet, those who are familiar with the Mayweather Boxing Club and the Mayweather family have known about Kevin Newman II for years.  Since the tender age of nine, Newman has been working with Jeff Mayweather for this exact moment.

On September 13, when once again Floyd Mayweather does battle with Marcos Maidana, Kevin Newman II makes his professional debut.  Likely the first fight of the evening, there probably will not be a lot of people on hand to see it, but for those who are, they may be witnessing the rise of a future champion.

After years on the amateur circuit, and countless battles inside the “doghouse” that is the Mayweather Boxing Club, Newman and his team have decided that the time is now to turn pro.  Just last week he signed the contract, making him the newest official member of The Money Team.  Many believe that he may have the highest ceiling of any of Floyd’s fighters, and it’s hard to argue against that when you get a chance to witness the impressive skills the young 22-year-old possesses.

I had the opportunity to talk to Kevin at the gym to get his thoughts on all that is going on with him during this busy time.  Inside the ring, Newman is often as flamboyant as he is skilled.  But outside of it, he is just as often a humble and serious young man who is fully focused on his career and what it is he hopes to accomplish.

Check out what he has to say about his pro debut and how it feels to be on The Money Team.
