As the boxing Mecca of the world, Las Vegas is no stranger to big fights. Several times throughout the year, mega events come to sin city bringing in millions of dollars and thousands of tourists. However, when Floyd Mayweather is involved, things tend to go up to another level.
This weekend will be no different, as Mayweather will take on Robert Guerrero on Cinco de Mayo weekend. Anyone who ever thought Floyd would be taking on anyone other than a Mexican on this weekend certainly does not appreciate the marketing savvy he possesses.
For once, Floyd finds himself on the more quiet side of the promotion, as Guerrero has been the one doing the majority of the mouthing off. Additionally, his father Ruben has engaged in his own verbal warfare with Floyd Mayweather Sr. It is likely that Floyd appreciates that he has not been the one who has had to do all the heavy lifting as far as the promotion of the fight goes.
In Guerrero, Floyd has not only found himself a Mexican fighter for a weekend celebrating Mexican heritage, but he also has an opponent who, in theory really has little to offer Floyd in terms of a stiff challenge. Of course anything can happen in a fight, but Mayweather has to be aware that everything Guerrero does, he does better. On top of that, Guerrero is moving up in weight, so it is unlikely he will have enough power to really make Floyd respect him.
All in all, this is a weekend just perfect for Las Vegas. The fight provides a reason to party for a city that needs no reason, and will more than likely allow the fighter that calls Las Vegas home an opportunity to shine his brightest.
As the day draws near, the hotels are filling up and fans are starting to get anxious to see if Floyd Mayweather can remain perfect, or if Robert Guerrero can shock the world and give his fans and all Mexicans an even bigger reason to celebrate. Either way, late Saturday night it is going to be one hell of a party.
