Layla McCarter excited to see women in spotlight once again

By Jody Kohn

Layla McCarter has been boxing for many years.  During that time, she has seen the popularity of women’s boxing decrease, particularly in this country, to where it receives almost no coverage at all.

However, on Saturday night, BKB took a chance and put two ladies in their pit to kick off their pay-per-view.  And fortunately for them, the ladies delivered.  Layla McCarter became the first ever female BKB champion when she defeated Diana Prazak by TKO in the seventh round.

McCarter’s performance was so impressive, that even Gabriel Rosado, who was in the main event had to comment about her incredible display in the post-fight press conference.  Others were filling cyberspace with commentary.  Many of those said that she was the best fighter on the card.  And it was hard to argue with that assessment.  Based on their showing, there is little doubt this won’t be the last time ladies climb into the pit.

We spoke with McCarter following her fight to see what she thought about her performance, as well as how she thinks it will affect the way women are viewed going forward.  For years, McCarter has talked about her frustration with women being basically ignored in boxing.  She believes that with the platform they received on Saturday night, perhaps things might start to slowly turn around for the better.

Oh yea, and we asked about the Ronda Rousey comments too!
