As we draw nearer to Mayweather vs. Maidana II, no doubt bettors will be looking for any angles they can find in order to make their own payday from the fight. MyTopSportsbooks.com has Mayweather as the heavy favorite right now, with odds for him to win at -800. Marcos Maidana, meanwhile, pays +500. With those type of odds, anyone who is favoring the underdog could stand to be richly rewarded.
In their first fight back in May, Mayweather Jr. was awarded a majority decision. In that contest, Maidana was able to rough up the champion, and many even thought he did enough to get the decision. So for those who don’t think that was a fluke, it makes sense for them to back the challenger.
However, it is wise to be cautious when betting against Floyd Mayweather in any rematch. As he has shown in previous fights, Mayweather typically learns a lot from first encounters. Known as one of the smartest fighters in history, he tends to use that knowledge to his advantage in rematches. And with few believing he can offer any new wrinkles to his game, that may not bode well for Maidana this time.
Inside the ring, despite his advancing age, Mayweather has not shown many signs of declining. The same goes for his out of the ring antics. Recently, Floyd made waves when TMZ.com posted a video of him getting scrubbed in a bathtub. It was just the kind of scene that lead many people to either love or hate the pound-for-pound king.
The rest of the Sept. 13 card is starting to fill out as well. According to ESPN.com, Junior featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz will defend his title against Manuel Roman in the co-feature bout. In the other two televised contests, lightweight champ Miguel Vazquez will square off with TMT fighter Mickey Bey, while Alfredo Angulo takes on James De La Rosa in a 162 pound contest.
