Saturday night September 29th at Resorts Hotel and Casino it looks to be time to settle unfinished business for Polish middleweight sensation Patrick “The Machine” Majewski (19-1, 13KO’s) when he takes on Latif Mundy (10-4, 4KO’s) in the ten round main event of the evening of the Global Boxing Series card promoted by Mariusz Kolodziej’s Global Boxing Promotions and Peltz Boxing Promotions.
The ever improving Majewski didn’t enter in the boxing venue in the normal way. “I was working sixteen hours a day at my job in the winter. The hours became slow so I went back to the gym and they were doing boxing training there,” said Majewski. “I went back to Poland because there were some professional boxers there. That is where I truly began my boxing training, but I could only hit the bag, because at the age of nineteen, they said I was too old to begin boxing.” It would not stop the determined fighter from Radom, Poland. He moved to America and at the age of twenty four his trainer felt he was ready and put him in the golden gloves. “I was doing good.” said Majewski “I won the New Jersey golden Gloves and I was hooked.” Majewski amassed a small, but impressive amateur record of 12-2.
With age not on his side, Majewski decided to turn professional on September 20th 2006 and did so with a bang, scoring a second round knockout of Terry Peacock. The victories continued to mount for the Polish sensation, now residing in Somers Point, New Jersey and after six years as a pro he stands at 19-1, 13KO’s. “When I first turned pro, I was so green that I wasn’t even thinking that I didn’t have any experience,” reiterated Majewski. “I am learning fast now. Every day I see something new I have to work on. I want to learn and I know that I need to improve. I am getting better each week and with every fight and when I get to the top, I will be ready for the best in the world.”
Majewski knows his fight with Latif Mundy will be a true test of his boxing abilities. “I fought Latif Mundy three years ago. He was a very slick fighter and it was a really tough fight. He is a better fighter now and I am too. Everybody in the crowd thought it was a great fight and it will be even better this time.”
I won’t predict a knockout, because I will use all of my boxing skills to win,” stated Majewski. Of course I will be hitting hard though. My job is to get him out of there. Nobody is paying for overtime, so expect fireworks in the ring.”
Mundy knows a victory over Majewski would put him right back in with the elite of the middleweight division and will be in tip top shape come fight night.
One thing is for sure. It will be settled once and for all Saturday night September 29th at Resorts Hotel and Casino.
Also appearing on the card are fellow Polish prospects, Patryk Szymanski (1-0) and debuting Michal Chudecki in competitive four round contests. Szymanski of Wroclaw, Poland will battle it out with debuting Atlantic City welterweight, Adrian Wilson. Michal Chudecki of Konin, Poland will tangle with undefeated Moses Molina (1-0,1KO) of Bridgeton, New Jersey in a four round super featherweight contest.
Hard hitting Emanuel “Pinky” Colon (2-0, 2KO’s) looks for his third straight knockout as a professional, when he swaps punches with Philadelphia’s own Gabriel Diaz (1-1-1) in a four round junior welterweight contest.
Several other rising prospects are featured on the card.
Undefeated welterweight Anthony Prescott (1-0, 1KO) of Cherry Hill, New Jersey is set to go four rounds with debuting Philadelphian Terrell James.
Tough Philly junior welterweight Hasan Young (1-0-1) looks to bounce back from a hard fought draw with Jerome Rodriguez, when he battles it out over four rounds with Albany New York debutant Damon Murray.
Rounding out the card, is a four round contest featuring Philly junior welterweight David Gonzalez (1-0) against an opponent to be announced.
