In an interview on The Jeff Mayweather Show, Tuesday night, Malik Scott, 35-0, 12 KOs, says Vyacheslav Glazkov is in for a rude awakening when he puts his undefeated record on the line when the two meet on Feb. 23. The fight will take place at The Paramount in Huntington, NY and serve as the main event for a nationally televised card airing on the NBC Sports Network.
“This kid has never seen nothing like me. He has a great pedigree and he comes to fight. But guys that do that, that come to fight, play right into my hands,” Scott said during the show.
The kid he is referring to, Vyacheslav Glazkov, sports an impressive resume himself. At 14-0, 10 KO’s, he is originally from the Ukraine, but now fights out of New Jersey. His last fight was perhaps his most impressive. In that contest, he scored a 4th round TKO over the highly rated Tor Hamer. He battered his foe so completely, that Hamer refused to answer the bell for round five. In the process, Glazkov won plenty of new fans who were appreciative of the effort. Against Scott, he hopes to expand that fan base, but Scott doesn’t see that happening.
When asked if he were bothered that he has gone largely unnoticed despite an impressive unbeaten record, Malik Scott had this to say.
“It adds fuel to my fire. I am the real deal. I have the skills to pay the bills. That’s why we got this great NBC show. After February 23, they will be believers. This kid’s got his hands full.”
Malik Scott may not boast huge knockout power, but his boxing is among the best of all heavyweights according to Jeff Mayweather. If he continues to show the willingness to rely on his strengths, it is likely the Philadelphia fighter will be a handful for Vyacheslav Glazkov. In his last fight, Jeff Mayweather trained fighter Bowie Tupou was stopped in the eighth round by Scott, so he knows what he brings to the table. In a sport that too often gives its fans less than exciting fights, a battle of unbeaten heavyweights is a treat for all.
