For most people who saw the fight, Mauricio Herrera had done more than enough to win his fight against Danny Garcia last month in Puerto Rico. However, the only opinions that mattered were the judges scoring the bout, and two of them felt Garcia had won, while the other scored it a draw.
In what was supposed to be a showcase fight for Garcia, he got much more than he expected in Herrera, a fighter who had shown an ability to beat top fighters such as Ruslan Provodnikov. Additionally, though coming up short, he has also been in the ring with several other top fighters, so Garcia was unlikely to intimidate the California based fighter.
I had the chance to sit down with Herrera and get his thoughts on his disappointing loss now that a month has passed. Obviously, he believed he won the fight, but is looking forward to capitalize on the momentum he gained from this fight, even though he didn’t get the result he felt he deserved.
