Mickey Bey doesn’t feel extra pressure to perform coming off suspension

By Jody Kohn

Back in February, Mickey Bey scored a vicious knockout over Robert Rodriguez in a performance that seemingly was going to launch the talented fighter into the upper echelons of professional boxing.  Though he was undefeated, a series of management difficulties was holding down the talented fighter who came into the professional ranks with lofty expectations.

After joining The Money Team, things were finally in order.  However, shortly after the victory, once again things turned sour for Bey.  A failed drug test overturned the decision and earned Bey a lengthy suspension.  Bey denied knowledge of the illegal substances in his system, and for once, it appeared the boxer was telling the truth.  A shady physician handling Bey was the culprit, and an understanding Nevada Athletic Commission all but exonerated Bey, giving him just a three month suspension.

Since then, Bey has been chomping at the bit to get back into action and put the entire episode behind him.  Talking to him, it is quite clear that the ordeal has done nothing to hurt his confidence.  Although he doesn’t feel extra pressure to perform on Friday night, he fully believes that he has more than enough to get the job done against the experienced John Molina.

Should he prevail in this fight, it seems that a long awaited title shot may be in order for the Cleveland native.  Although it may be long overdue in his eyes, he believes his time has finally arrived, and that his troubles are finally in the past.

Media day at the Mayweather Boxing Club

ProBoxingInsider.com was on hand at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas as the fighters for the Showtime card this Friday night talked to the media and went through light workout routines.

After Ishe Smith had to pull out of his fight with Carlos Molina, Mickey Bey and John Molina were elevated to the main event.  Despite the impressive power in Molina’s hands, Bey has no doubt he will remain undefeated after the final bell rings in their fight.

Badou Jack and Farrah Ennis are the combatants in the co-main event.  Jack (14-0) looks to remain perfect, but will be taking a step up in class as he tangles with the 21-1 Farrah Ennis.

Other fighters on the card include undefeated Money Team fighters Ronald Gavril and Luis Arias.  Chris Pearson is another undefeated fighter looking to impress.  Finally, amateur stand out Andrew Tabiti will be making his professional debut.
