Following a summer break the Nordic Fight Night returns on September 13. As always the event will showcase Scandinavia’s top boxing talent including rising Danish stars Micki Nielsen (14-0, 11 KOs), Torben Keller (10-0-1, 3 KOs) and Abdul Khattab (7-0, 3 KOs). TAP1, the former Carlsberg bottling plant in Copenhagen, will provide a unique setting for the night’s action.
Micki Nielsen is back following the third round stoppage of Igor Pylypenko in Moscow and the hard-hitting cruiserweight is relishing a return to the ring. “I feel good,’’ said Nielsen, the current WBC Youth Cruiserweight Champion. ‘’I have been training hard and had some great sparring with my teammate Otto Wallin. My last fight in Moscow was a good experience for me. I learnt a lot from testing myself away from home. However I am looking forward to being back in Copenhagen – close to my hometown of Albertslund. It’s going to be a party! And my fans rarely say no to a good party.’’
Nielsen will be joined by Torben Keller and Abdul Khattab, who are both feeling the benefit of a summer spent training with former five-time World Champion Mikkel Kessler.
“I’ve spent much of the summer training at Mikkel Kessler’s gym,’’ said Keller. ‘’It has really helped me to raise my level of boxing both physically and technically. I’m excited to get out and show my fans some entertaining boxing again. It’s been a while since a boxing event took place in central Copenhagen, I am sure there will be a great atmosphere”.
“I’ve been training all summer with Mikkel Kessler and Torben Keller,’’ said Khattab. ‘’I would be ready to go into the ring tomorrow. I always feel at home whether I box in Jutland or in Copenhagen but I expect to get extra support when the Nordic Fight Night arrives in my backyard in Copenhagen.”
Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’We are delighted to bring the Nordic Fight Night back to Copenhagen. This is the start of the new season and the first of many action-packed Nordic Fight Night events we have planned. There will be three title fights and some top Danish talents on display at TAP1. I would urge all fans to join us on September 13 for what will be a memorable night of boxing.’’
Rikke Friis Assentoft, Managing Director of TAP1 said: ‘’At TAP1 we have a magnificent history of hosting unique big-scale events, but for the first time ever, we proudly go toe-to-toe with a renowned live boxing event; the Nordic Fight Night! Our authentic and rough surroundings will provide the perfect setting and it is with great excitement we welcome Team Sauerland’s audience to, what we believe to be, a once in a lifetime experience.’’
Alongside the Danish fighters, WBC, WBO & WBA Female World Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus (25-0, 7 KOs) will attempt to make history by becoming the first female boxer to unify a division when she takes on IBF Champion Ivana Habazin (13-1, 5 KOs), ‘’The Swedish Princess’’ Klara Svensson (13-0, 5 KOs) will get her first shot at World glory as she fights Marie Riederer (15-1-1, 10 KOs) for the interim WBC Female World Light Welterweight title and Erik Skoglund (20-0, 11 KOs) defends his European (EU) Light Heavyweight crown and challenges Stefano ‘’The Hammer’’ Abatangelo (18-3-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant IBF Intercontinental belt.
