Patrick Nielsen (28-1, 14 KOs) takes on ‘Momma’s Boy’ Denis Douglin (20-4, 13 KOs) for the WBO Intercontinental Super Middleweight title at the Nordic Fight Night on May 28 at the Arena Midt in Kjellerup, Denmark.
The Danish star returns following his third-round TKO victory over domestic rival Rudy Markussen, and with his sights firmly set on a World title challenge, the 25 year-old is eyeing a statement win against the slick southpaw Douglin.
‘’I can’t wait to get back in the ring,’’ said Nielsen. ‘’Douglin is a strong opponent, he’s a southpaw like me with a good style, so I’m expecting a tough fight.
‘’After my last fight, I want to make a statement. I don’t just want to beat this guy. I want to take him a part. I know I’m ready to fight for the World title, and now, I’ve got to prove it. On May 28, people are going to see the best Patrick Nielsen.
‘’I’ve been in the gym training non-stop and I feel stronger than ever. My coach Joey Gamache has been working me hard. We’re always looking to improve. I feel like I would be a match for anyone in the division, and I’m willing to fight anyone!
‘’I know people want to use my name for publicity. That’s part of the sport, and I’ve been in the game long enough to know how it works. I’m just focusing on me. I trust that my promoters and manager will deliver me the best fights, and with their help, I know I can become World Champion, but first, I have to beat Douglin.’’
Douglin, the 27 year-old from New Jersey, USA, is a former Golden Gloves amateur champion who fights out of the Mayweather Boxing Gym in Las Vegas.
Known as the ‘Momma’s Boy’, he is trained and managed by his mother Saphya, who will be in his corner come fight night.
‘’Patrick is a tough fighter, but I feel for sure I’m going to win,’’ said Douglin. ‘’I’m in great shape, I’ve been getting some good sparring and I think he’s going to be in for a shock.
‘’We’re prepared for everything. If Patrick fights dirty, so will I, if he wants to wrestle, we can wrestle. I’m ready! My plan is to become a world champion. I know I’m a better boxer than Patrick Nielsen, and that’s what I intend to show on May 28 in Denmark.’’
Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’This will be a good test for Patrick against another young, hungry fighter. The WBO route is an interesting one for him, and a final eliminator with Arthur Abraham is one of the options we’re looking at. There is no doubt that if Patrick can get past Denis there will be a big fight waiting for him after the summer, but he can’t afford to take anything for granted. Denis will be coming here to win and with World title aspirations of his own!’’
