What’s up Brandon? It’s been a while since we last spoke. I know that you were at the Pacquiao/Marquez fight, what were your thoughts on the fight? What was your first reaction when Marquez gave Pacquiao that Nyquil treatment?
BR- It was a great fight, Marquez did everything right. Pacquiao was open for that shot, and Marquez did a great job at countering him. I saw that knockout and I was like Fuck what a shot.
I’m sure that Pacquiao is itching to get back at Marquez for that. Assuming Marquez retires, a fight versus you would be the type of fight that can get Pacquiao’s mojo back in the sense that Pacquiao wouldn’t have to find you, you would be right there ready to exchange. Given the manner in which Pacquiao lost, is he still #1 on your wish list?
BR- Hey why not, he has a big name. I want to show the world what I can do to the big dogs. I know that he wants Marquez again, but shit like you said, I aint hard to find. I’m right here, let’s get it on.
I would like to thank both Alvarado and yourself for putting it all on the line to give the boxing fans a classic fight. If the Pacquiao or Marquez fight can not be made, would you be willing to give Alvarado the opportunity for a rematch?
BR- Honestly that may be what they are working on, for March 30th. World War 2 is what I am calling that fight right now. I am glad that you and so many people out there enjoyed it. I watch it all the time, I love that shit. But yeah if the money is right and if everything goes into play, why not, I’m down for that.
Julio Cesar Chavez is a fighter that you look up to. He was an incredible inside fighter that used his arms, forearms, and shoulder to deflect a lot of incoming punches. I see you doing the same. Do you feel that you don’t get enough credit for your defense on the inside?
BR- I agree 100% with you. If I got hit as much as they think I do, my face would be all cut up. They don’t realize and understand what I’m doing in there. I block a lot of punches just like Chavez used to do. I don’t have to move my head to not get hit, I know how to defend while I am right in front of you. I am so glad to hear that you see and understand what I am doing in there.
I was working your fight against Acosta. In the 3rd or 4th round, I recall you getting hit with a hard right shot that seemed to stun you. Was that the hardest that you have ever been hit? If not, what was the hardest shot that you have been hit with, and by who?
BR- I know what punch you are talking about. Yeah he fucken hit me good and made my head go back, but shit Alvarado also hit me good. Mikey Garcia hits fucken hard, when I spar him. It’s hard to just pick one to be honest with you.
Taking Pacquiao and Marquez off the menu, if you could fight either Matthysse, Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Gamboa, or Alvarado, next, who would you choose? And why?
BR- Bring them all! I love to test my will. Look man, Matthysse is a tough guy just like me. Broner is good, but he is too cocky and thinks that he is Mayweather. There is only one Mayweather. Gamboa is a bitch. I saw his last fight and if I would have hit him like that, shit, I would have knocked his ass out. But you know what, I would love to face Danny Garcia. I want his WBC belt! They say he hits hard but I know that I hit hard and my chin can hold up. So fuck yeah, me and Garcia can get it on.
Tell us something about yourself that many people don’t know about you?
BR- I ‘m as humble as they come. I don’t go Hollywood. I’m not fake at all and never will be. Yes, I do speak my mind, but it’s because I keep it 100% at all times. Just because you hear me curse a lot doesn’t mean that I am a bad guy. I’m just being me and that is how I talk.
What are some of the charities that you are a part of, or donate to, How did you first get involved?
BR- Me and my wife always donate to St. Judes Hospital for children with cancer. A lot of people don’t know that about me. I’m glad that you asked. Parents against cancer is what I am in full support of as well. I have seen some bad things with the children. Real bad things. They are so strong and I love them for moving forward to continue to fight.
