Orlando’s One Punch Prepares for Cotto Card

By Sonee Thompson

I visited One Punch Boxing Promotions in Apopka, Florida last weekend. You may remember them from my video in June on the signing of former middleweight champ Jeff Lacy. Roy Cruz and Nick Sityar continue to step up their game with two up and coming fighters who will appear on the October 5 Cotto vs. Rodriguez card. Clarence “The Truth” Booth sparring partner to local champ Keith Thurman Jr and Moises Carasquillo will both fight on undercards. This week’s video will feature the interview with Roy and Nick and next week will feature the fighters. Florida continues to be a hotbed of talent in all areas of sports, it’s just bred into the culture, but boxing is a standout sport. Anyone willing and able to box in this heat is gets points from the jump.

Here is a breakdown of the card.

HBO will feature the Pride of Puerto Rico Miguel Cotto October 5 in his Florida debut when he faces two-time world title challenger and current Top-Five contender Delvin Rodriguez in a 12-round super welterweight showdown at Amway Center. Unbeaten lightweight Terrence Crawford (21-0 16 KO’s) will take on Russian Andrey Klimov (16-0 8KO’s) who is coming off a ten round majority decision win over Carlos Molina back in June.

Crawford is ranked number one in the WBO lightweight ranking’s and presuming he comes through this fight with a win he will look to fight the winner of Ricky Burns Raymundo Beltran in what would be his first world title opportunity. It will be an exciting night of boxing and as I stress in my video comments, this is proving ground that when given the chance, Florida can sustain successful pro boxing matches on the elite level.
