According to his manager/trainer George Peterson, the accident took place in Marietta. Williams swerved to avoid a car and his motorcycle went up an embankment and he was violently thrown from his bike. He apparently severed his spinal cord after falling on his back and head.
Peterson informed Augusta News 12 that Williams is in the hospital awaiting surgery that is scheduled for Wednesday. Peterson said that surgery will be done to stabilize the healthy upper half of his spine by putting a protective wall around it.
Williams had been scheduled to face Saul Alvarez for the WBC junior middleweight title as part of a pay-per-view to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
