Dubbed the people’s champion by hometown fans who’s hopes and aspirations he represents, I recently caught up with undefeated San Francisco, California junior welterweight Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (18-0-1, 11 KO’s), a man with a few things to say ahead of his upcoming clash with Puerto Rico’s once-beaten Thomas Dulorme (20-1, 14 KO’s).
Set to take place March 29th coming from Atlantic City, New Jersey’s Boardwalk Hall, Karim in making his second appearance on HBO as the co-feature to headline attraction Sergey Kovalev is poised and ready to go. Not only keen on ending talk of the Puerto Rican becoming one of the next big stars in boxing, but “Hard Hitta” simply feels he will exit the ring the new 140-pound NABF titlist, an accolade likely to put him in line for a major world championship.
