World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns brought Glasgow’s St Enoch Centre to a standstill today with a hard-hitting public work-out. Scotland’s first two-time and two-weight world champion in twenty years showed fans how preparations are going for his epic showdown with English rival Kevin Mitchell.
Burns put on a power-packed session, that included eight-rounds of hard and fast pad-work with trainer Billy Nelson.
And patient fans then queued for up to two hours to get a photo and autograph with their hero who’s ‘man of the people attitude’ has caught the imagination of the public.
Burns said, “I’m really amazed by the turnout of the public who have come out to see me today at the St Enoch,”
“As I’m heading into the biggest fight of my life against Mitchell, it’s a great feeling to know that the public are giving me their support and it’s really given me a huge boost,”
“I don’t always get to meet the fans as I’m locked away hard in training, but doing public work-outs like this gives me the opportunity to see them and have a chat,”
“With only a couple of weeks to go until the fight, I’m in great shape and really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great fight, I don’t like to boast and make predictions, but it will be cracker, the best fight you’ll see in a long time,”
“I know Mitchell is training hard to take my world title, full respect to him for coming up to Glasgow and challenging for it, but it’s staying here in Scotland.”
Burns v Mitchell will be televised live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546). Join now at www.boxnation.com
