Ricky Hatton is still calling for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to meet inside the ring. Hatton believes it is time for the rivals to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
A match up involving the two biggest names in the sport has been talked about for years. However, despite his wishes for the fight to occur, Hatton does not believe at this point it will ever come to fruition. Of course the major sticking point blocking the fight has always been how to divide the money. Ricky Hatton believes it should be a 50-50 split even now.
With the recent loss by Manny Pacquiao to Juan Manuel Marquez, another problem appears to be that Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t consider Manny Pacquiao a worthy opponent following that result. He feels he is too good for him. Pacquiao has accrued five career losses, while Mayweather’s record is unblemished in 43 career contests. Both Mayweather and Hatton have questioned the 34-year-old’s future in boxing.
“I don’t think Mayweather v Pacquiao will happen,” Hatton told ESPN. “Since Pacquiao got beat it’s lost its sparkle. It’s a shame that they don’t want to fight each other.
“You go in this sport to prove you’re best in the world, so you’d think they’d both be thinking ‘can I really beat you? ‘I think they should go 50/50 and just get it on.”
Ricky Hatton has faced both Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao during his career as a boxer. In both fights he suffered knockout losses. He recently came out of retirement to face Ukranian Vyacheslav Senchenko, where he suffered a TKO loss. Following that result, he once again decided to hang up his gloves. He finished up his career as one of the most popular fighters in the sport, compiling a 45-3 record.
