According to Robert Garcia, there is no truth to the rumors circulating that former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will begin training with him. Garcia personally denied the talk when speaking with BoxingScene.com about the subject. Freddie Roach, who has been training Chavez Jr. up to this point has said he believes Robert Garcia will retain the services of Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s).
Freddie Roach began working with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. a few years ago. Their relationship and training camps have been quite the circus at times. In his last fight, a loss to Sergio Martinez, it was the training camp that most held directly accountable for the loss. Roach was on record saying it was one of the worst experiences of his professional career with Chavez missing many sessions and repeatedly ignoring the advice Roach offered. Since then, Chavez has been looking for a new trainer.
“I havent heard from anyone. I heard they were trying to hire Nacho [Beristain]. I said Nacho wouldn’t put up with his bullsh*t. I honestly think that he’ll end up in Oxnard, because Alex Ariza was up there kissing ass. Alex was down there with him, and Billy Keane. They are trying to get someone to train him, but they’ve had no luck so far. I would love to train him if he comes to the gym every day, but if it’s going to be like last time – don’t bother me,” Roach told BoxingScene.com.
Robert Garcia would be interested in taking on the job, but denies any agreement has been reached.
“I would love to train Chavez. Nobody has said anything to me. Alex Ariza has never even been in my gym and I don’t even know Billy Keane. A lot of people keep asking me about it and I would love to train him, but nobody has said anything to me,” Garcia said
