Former multi-division world champion Robert Guerrero of Gilroy, California will be taking on David Emanuel Peralta of Argentina in a 10-round bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California this Saturday, August 27th. The fight is a part of the ongoing Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series and can be seen live in the U.S. and Canada on Spike TV. Guerrero last fought back in January when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to former world champion Danny Garcia. Peralta’s last bout took place in May and he won an eight-round unanimous decision over Guillermo de Jesus Paz.
The 33-year-old Guerrero will climb into the ring with a record of 33-4-1 along with 18 Kos while the 33-year-old Peralta is 25-2-1 with 14 Kos to his name. Guerrero has lost two of his past three outings with losses to elite boxers Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman by unanimous decision. He did manage to beat Aron Martinez last year by split decision in a tough bout in which he had to pick himself up from the canvas in. Guerrero also has solid victories over the likes of Secluk Aydin, Joel Casamayor, Michael Katsidis, Yoshihiro Kamegai and Andre Berto and has won world titles in four different weight divisions. His lone draw was a technical decision against Julian Rodriguez in 2004.
Guerrero has also lost to Gamaliel Diaz by 12-round split decision in 2005 and Floyd Mayweather by unanimous decision in 2013. Guerrero could use the action as he hasn’t fought much since 2012 and definitely needs a win here if he hopes to find himself in contention for another title shot down the road since he’s lost three of his past five contests. Guerrero is 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 70-inch reach and has 271 rounds under his belt since turning pro in 2001. He’s taken on some tough customers during his career and has quite a bit of big-fight experience while climbing up in weight on a consistent basis. He can take a punch as he has an excellent chin, but hasn’t stopped an opponent since 2010 with his last seven wins all coming by decision. His knockout ratio is currently 45 percent.
Guerrero used to combine his fine boxing skills and mobility with inside fighting while throwing a variety of punches and combinations from different ranges and angles. After moving up to the welterweight division he prefers to fight mainly on the inside and maul his way into a brawl while unloading short shots and uppercuts. He likes to throw a large volume of punches and his style usually results in a crowd-pleasing fight. His opponent Peralta is also known to be a bit of a slugger with a 50 per cent knockout percentage so the fans could be in for a treat come Saturday night.
Peralta turned pro in 2005 and has boxed 116 rounds since then. However, all of his fights have been in his homeland and the level of opponents has been questionable. There isn’t really one recognizable name on his resume which the average fan would have heard of. He lost a 10round split decision to Cristian Nestor Romero in April of last year and was stopped in the fifth round by Claudio Alfredo Olmedo back in 2011. His draw was a four-round affair with Segundo Ariel Senteno in 2014. Peralta’s height and reach are both unlisted.
Prediction……
Guerrero’s skills shouldn’t be underestimated. He’s been in a few wars, but can also box effectively if needed even though he’s now past his prime. However, he seems to be a bit of a brawler at heart and needs to make sure he doesn’t walk into anything. Peralta is basically an unknown quantity, but does have a puncher’s chance. Look for Guerrero to win by decision or late stoppage.
