The Mayweather Boxing Club is full of fighters of all levels. From world champions to people just looking to get into better shape, each day the gym is packed with people “doing work.”
Perhaps one of the less heralded, but most talented of those fighter is Rocco Santomauro (10-0, 1 KO). As one of the most dedicated gym rats you will ever encounter, it is unlikely that anyone in that gym has worked themselves into condition matching his. And that includes the gym’s namesake. I am not sure of the body fat he has, but if it is over 2%, I would be shocked.
But of course, being in shape is not all that is involved with being a great fighter. It takes skills as well. And skills also appear to be in abundance for the undefeated fighter. After returning several weeks ago to action after a lengthy layoff due to injury, Santomauro believes that in the next year he will have put himself into title contention.
First things first, he returns to action this weekend in the Virgin Islands, looking to build on the momentum of his last fight where he scored his first career knockout.
We talked to Rocco on Wednesday, just as he finished up his final Las Vegas workout and headed of to his fight location.
