Saunders takes on Sabire in Manchester

Light-welterweight ace Bradley Saunders will face Frenchman Christophe Sabire on the Dereck Chisora-Tyson Fury undercard on Saturday 26th July at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester.

The unbeaten Sedgefield star is coming off a brilliant first round KO win over Ville Piispanen earlier this month in Newcastle to claim the WBO Intercontinental Light-Welterweight crown – his first pro title.

And the win also saw Saunders, a Beijing Olympian and 2007 World Amateur Championship Bronze medalist, break into the WBO world top 15 rankings at number 12 as looks to move fast towards a world title shot.

Sabire will be a good test for Saunders, he extended British talent Bradley Skeete the full twelve rounds in February in a WBA Intercontinental title challenge at welterweight, and came back in May with a second round stoppage of Nemanja Krstin.

Saunders, 28, will do an eight-round contest against Sabire and is looking to put on a show for his fans.

“I’m looking forward to this one, it’s fantastic getting back in the ring again after beating Piispanen. Sabire has taken Skeete the distance at welterweight and of course I’ll be looking to do a real good job on him,” Said Saunders.

“Obviously I was over the moon winning in such dramatic style against Piispanen in front of my home fans. I knew that I was going to knock him out with the body shot as I’d been working on it over and over again in the gym, but I didn’t expect him to go the first time I tried it,”

“Now that I’m ranked in the WBO the world title is in my sights, but I want to get some more rounds in so I can get some experience in the bag which I’m sure will come as the fights get harder,”

“Sabire is bigger and stronger as he’s fought at welterweight and up at light-middleweight so maybe he’ll take me a few rounds more. I know that I won’t have to go looking for him which will make it exciting for the fans.”
