Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) World number 4, IBO International and British champion Ashley ‘Treasure’ Theophane got back on the world scene with a stunning performance over Ronnie Warrior Junior on Friday 24th August 2012.
Ronnie Warrior’s biggest fights have been against Dmitriy Salita, Kevin Bizier, Raymond Serrano and Azael Cosio but Ashley Theophane was a step too far.
Warrior who had a respectable record of 28 fights, 16 wins, 6 loses, 1 draw and 8 no contests going into the fight, was aggressive but Theophane had too much speed, power and skills for the 35 year old southpaw.
Theophane had no problems with the southpaw style of Warrior due to his sparring sessions with world number one Ajose Olusegun and former European champion Paul McCloskey.
Last time Theophane fought in America, he dismantled two time world title challenger Delvin Rodriguez. Months before that he would drop a razor thin split decision to WBC world champion Danny Garcia. Garcia has just knocked out Amir Khan in four explosive rounds in Las Vegas back in July. It goes to show how good Theophane actually is.
Theophane’s results against Danny Garcia, Delvin Rodriguez and Demarcus Corley rubber stamp him as a world level operator and a threat to the world champions.
As British champion, Theophane seemed uninterested and bored in fights, which you could probably understand after fighting the fighters that he has in America.
Ashley improved his record to 38 fights, 32 wins, 5 loses and 1 draw. That’s a record to be proud of.
Theophane has now fought in America 5 times, Germany 4 times and Saint Lucia once. His world tour shows no signs of slowing down with promoters in Algeria, Germany, Luxembourg, America and Nigeria showing interest in putting them on their fight cards.
What Theophane does hasn’t been done since the days of Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali, who would fight all over the world at a drop of a hat.
WBO Lightweight champion Ricky Burns is flying Theophane to Scotland on Monday to help him with his preparation for his battle with Kevin Mitchell. Theophane has sparred with some of the best fighters in the world and this will obviously help Ricky get that win over Mitchell.
Joan Guzman, Paul Malignaggi, Elio Rojas, Joseph Agbeko, Yuri Foreman and Barry Jones are just some of the world champions Ashley has sparred with.
Ricky Hatton coming back is the worst kept secret in world boxing.
Ashley Theophane fighting on the undercard against a former world champion is something he deserves off Hatton promotions after being failed by them over the last twelve months.
Theophane weighed in at 154.8lbs and Warrior was 155lbs for their bout on Bellonora McCallum’s world of champions promotions which was sanctioned by the North Carolina commission and held at Music Factory’s Reelworks Studios.
