The Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler rematch has been confirmed for the 25thMay at the O2 Arena, London. The fight will be shown live on Sky Box Office PPV after a two year absence.
If demand for Pay-Per-View is half as strong as the demand for tickets to the event, it will be a huge success. It is rumoured that over 17,000 tickets sold in under three hours after going on sale on Monday and it is already a sell-out.
The decision to return to Box Office won’t have been taken lightly by Sky Sports after the bad press they received for such debacles as the David Haye v Audley Harrison ‘fight’, however it is highly unlikely that Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler will disappoint and anything less than an all-out war would be a surprise.
It will be a busy Saturday in London as the Champions League Final takes place at Wembley stadium on the same date, which according to Promoter Eddie Hearn was all part of the plan. Hearn is hoping that the box office event will be the icing on the cake for sporting fans who will already be on the couch watching the football, which reflects my plans for the day exactly!
Opinion regarding Pay-Per-View is always divided amongst boxing fans, what do you think, is a return to Pay-Per-View a good thing for the sport of boxing? Or does it take advantage of fans loyalty and interest, especially during a recession?
