Former world champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez and world ranked Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo will fight in September and October, respectively.
Peter Rivera, Vice-President of PR Best Boxing Promotions, announced today that Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs), a former WBO super featherweight champion, is going to fight against Mexican Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-1, 17 KOs) on September 15, as part of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Sergio Martinez show at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The fight between Rocky Martinez and Beltran Jr. is for the vacant WBO junior lightweight championship on September 15 in the Pay Per View of Chavez Jr.-Martinez”,Rivera said about the title that was vacated weeks ago when former champion Adrien Broner failed to make the weight for his fight against Vicente Escobedo.
Meanwhile, Oquendo (22-2, 15 KOs), the #2 ranked by the WBO in the superbantamweights, will fight for the first time in a year after his recovery from an accident in October 6, on the undercard of the Wilfredo Vazquez Jr./Rafael Marquez card. He will face an opponent to be announced.
