Former WBO junior featherweight champion Wilfredo “Papito” Vazquez Jr., must appear in court on August 22 in Bayamon for two trials, one as victim and another as an aggressor.
Judge Milagros Muniz summoned Vazquez Jr. to court for two lesser charges of simple assault and breach of the peace for allegedly assaulting Joshua Cuadrado last Friday at the mall Plaza del Sol in Bayamon.
For the same incident, judge Elsie Ochoa summoned Joshua Cuadrado and Libniria Berrios Rivera. They are both charged with simple assault and breach of the peace for allegedly assaulting Vazquez.
If found guilty, both are set to pay a $500 fine and / or serve six months in jail. Vazquez Jr. said that he did not hit anyone involved in this case with his fist. He claimed that Libniria Berrios Rivera slapped him on his left cheek while Joshua Cuadrado pushed him to the ground.
All of this started when Vazuqez Jr. entered a certain area of the mall at the same time as the couple and the woman yelled at Vazquez Jr., saying, “Why don’t you go first, you [expletive], if you’re in such a hurry?”
This is what Vazquez Jr. told the Puerto Rican newspaper, El Nuevo Dia….
“I got them off of me because they were suffocating me. I am not capable of hitting a woman or a kid because I’m Papito Vazquez. I’ve always been taught that I cannot use my fist to attack anyone. I cannot use my hands for my benefit to attack a person. I’m not going to throw my job away for two people that are nothing in my life.”
Joshua Cuadrado and Libniria Berrios Rivera refused to comment to reporters outside of the courthouse.
Vazquez Jr. was scheduled to take on Rafael Marquez this Saturday in Bayamon, but a hand injury to Marquez, postponed the bout. The fight is now scheduled to take place on October 6.
