WILFREDO VAZQUEZ JR. VS. JONATHAN OQUENDO AT “THE WAR”, THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6, IN BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO


CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO- Former WBO superbantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and 122lbs contender Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo will collide in a “civil war” this Saturday, October 6, in the show “The War”, to be held at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer to be broadcast on “Pay Per View”.

The card will have the WBO minimum championship bout between the champion Moises Fuentes and the former titlist Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon, and also for the WBO Latino lightweight title, undefeated Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez will defend his belt against Oscar Cuero.

Headlining the show, Puerto Rican Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs) will face #3 WBO superbantamweight ranked and WBO Latino superbantamweight champion, his countryman, Oquendo (22-2, 15 KOs), for the WBO International 122lb title, scheduled to 12 rounds.

“You (Oquendo) are facing for the first time a fighter like me, a fighter of my level. Oquendo is not a fighter of (Rafael) Marquez’s level, but I”m going to fight him”, Vazquez Jr. said about Rafael Marquez, who was going to face him on August 4 and October 6. “My job is to train and facing the best fighters and I”m going to win this Saturday to go for another chance for the world title, and after that the 126lb division”.

While, Oquendo said that “I’m very good, I’m in a good shape and condition for this fight. I’m very focused for Vazquez Jr. I want to become a world champion. I’m hungry for this fight”.

The co headline bout will present Fuentes (15-1, 7 KOs), from Mexico, defending for the second time his 105lbs title against the Puerto Rican Calderon (35-2-1, 6 KOs) in a fight scheduled to 12 rounds.

“I don’t underestimated Ivan Calderon because they saying that he is old. I can’t think he is old, he is a former champion and a legend, so I train hard for this fight, to keep my title”, Fuentes said.

Calderon thanked Fuentes for the opportunity and said that “everyone says that I’m old, but look at Maravilla Martinez against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I’m very good trained and ready to win this title again”.

Meanwhile, the #4 WBO lightweight ranked, Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (20-0, 15 KOs) will defend his WBO Latino lightweight title against Humberto Toledo (41-8-2, 25 KOs), from Ecuador, in a bout scheduled to 10 rounds.

In the heavyweight division, former Olympian Víctor Bisbal (20-1, 14 KOs), will fight against Alex González (20-7, 10 KOs), scheduled to eight rounds.

In six rounds fights, Camilo Perez (7-0, 4 KOs) will face Juan G. Cruz (5-11-2, 1 KOs) in the superbatnamweights; Israel “El Heredero” Vazquez (6-0-2, 5 KOs) will fight against Erickson Martell (10-4-1, 8 KOs) in the junior flyweights; Rafael “El Pollo Blanco” Gonzalez (7-1, 6 KOs) will face William Lorenzo (2-11) in the lightweights.

And scheduled to four rounds, John Karl Sosa (3-0, 3 KOs) will face Jonathan García (3-3, 1 KOs).
