Former world champion Zab Judah has inked a promotional deal with Golden Boy. The announcement was made by the company on Monday.
As part of the agreement, Golden Boy will work together with Judah’s Super Judah Promotions, when promoting his fights.
“Super Judah Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions working together is phenomenal,” said Judah, a former undisputed welterweight champion and a former three-time junior welterweight titleholder. “I have been doing business with Golden Boy Promotions for a number of years, working both with them and against them, and I know what it’s like to be on both sides.
“Through those times, I see that we are a perfect fit. This joint venture will give me the experience I need as a promoter and get me the big fights I want at this point of my career.”
For his last fight, Zab Judah was a free agent, but worked with Golden Boy. The result was not the one he was hoping for, as he would go on to lose a unanimous decision to Danny Garcia back on April 27 in Brooklyn.
Considering Judah is a Brooklyn native, and Golden Boy has exclusive rights to the Barclays Center in that city, it made sense for him to work with a company that could book him there.
“I am very happy to welcome Zab to the Golden Boy team,” Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer said. “He is without question not only one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, but he also has tremendous name recognition, which reaches into the general market.
“In his thrilling fight against Danny Garcia, Zab showed that he belongs in the absolute top level of the sport. I am looking forward to … working with Zab and his team and have him participate in the biggest fights in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions.”
There is no date set for Zab Judah to return to the ring, but a date in the fall is most likely.
“We are currently working on some dates and opponents for Zab’s first fight with us,” Schaefer said.
Fortunately for Judah, Golden Boy has a lot of talent in both their welterweight and junior welterweight divisions, so finding suitable opponents should not be an issue. Some of the top names have already opposed him before in Lucas Matthsse, Amir Khan, and the aforementioned Danny Garcia.
