Once again, middleweight Elvin Ayala finds himself in the unenviable position of having to deal with a last-minute change of opponent, except this time he’s actually prepared for the unexpected. Ayala (25-5-1, 11 KOs), the reigning WBC USNBC beltholder from New Haven, Conn., was originally scheduled to face hard-hitting Jesus Gonzales, but with Gonzales unable to acquire a license from the Mohegan Sun Department of Athletic Regulation, Ayala will now face John Mackey (13-7-3, 6 KOs) in Saturday’s 10-round main event at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
