Ray Beltran (26-6, 17 KOs) won a stunning victory over “Hammerin’’ Hank Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KOs), on Friday night. Lundy hurt Beltran with hard shots in the third round. Beltran however, was the busier fighter after the third round. It was a close contest and when the scores were announced, Beltran was the new NABF lightweight champion. It was a majority decision for Beltran, by scores of 96-94, 96-94, and 95-95. Maybe Lundy’s weight issues at the scale on Thursday could have played a role, as he faded in the last few rounds. Lundy’s WBC #1 rank lightweight status, most likely will be jeopardized by the loss.
In the other television bout, Farah “Quiet Storm” Ennis (20-1, 12 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Richard “T.P.” Pierson (11-3, 8 KOs). Ennis easily out-fought Pierson throughout the ten round super middleweight bout. Pierson did not step up his attack even when his corner advised him to. The scores were read, 99-91 and 98-92 (twice). Both fights were shown live on ESPN2 from The Resorts Casino in Atlantic City.
