Pro Boxing Insider was ringside in Bolton, UK, to witness Bury’s Scott Quigg continue his march towards a world title. It was Quigg’s first fight with new promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sports, after a frustrating 7 months without a fight. There was no evidence of ring rust on Saturday as Quigg started strongly and finished a game William Prado with a sensational right hook in the 3rd round.
Quigg came into the fight in great shape and looked on top of his game. Quigg quickly established his solid jab, as he dominated round 1, without really getting out of first gear.
Round 2 started quicker, with Quigg bloodying the nose of Prado, as Quigg kept him on the end of his stiff jab. Although Prado, at times, exchanged with Quigg, his few flurry’s were either blocked or ineffective. Quigg started to land hurtful combinations to the body and head and with 17 seconds left of the second round, Quigg landed a straight right hand which sent Prado to the canvass. Prado managed to get to his feet and saw out the final few seconds of the 2nd round.
Quigg dominated round 3, landing time and time again, with hurtful punches to the body and head as Prado tried in vain to turn the fight around. Quigg landed some quality body shots which brought his opponents hands down and Quigg punished Prado with a fantastic right hook which sent Prado crashing to the canvas for the second and final time. Prado valiantly made it to his feet before the count of 10, but was clearly in no fit state to continue. Referee John Latham called an end to the one sided contest with 30 seconds left of round 3.
Scott Quigg’s record improved to 26-0-1 (19 KO’s) while Prado, who suffered the first stoppage defeat of his career, fell to 21-4-1 (14 KO’s). After the fight it was confirmed by Eddie Hearn that the WBA have set up a fight with Yoandris “El Nino” Salinas (20-0-1 13 KO’s) of Cuba, for the vacant WBA Super Bantamweight title in September.
